Specialty Moving
In this section we will cover a variety of topics that may or may not apply to the average mover. If you are looking for advice on moving a particularly tricky item, you may find what you’re looking for right here. On the other hand, if your specialty move includes office relocation or an international move, we have advice for that too.
Computers
In this day and age, most of us have at least one household computer. Because you’ve undoubtedly spent a pretty penny on yours, you are particularly invested in making sure it is relocated safely. In the “Moving Your Computer” article we will give you tips on packing your computer, your monitor and all your external devices so that they will arrive looking as shiny and new as when they left.
House Plants
If you’re a gardener, inside or out, you’re probably not willing to part with the plants you’ve cared for in your current location. Unless you are moving out of the country, you probably don’t have to. But be sure to check out state regulations on importation of houseplants before you pack up the household cacti. For more tips like this, read “Moving House Plants,” the next article in this section.
Vehicles
Planning to bring a car or boat with you? These specialty items require great care and planning to get them from point A to point B. Take a look at “Moving Your Boat” and “Automobile Moving” to get your vehicles safely and economically to their destinations.
Pianos
You don’t get any more “special” when it comes to specialty moving, than when you’re moving a piano. We seriously advise against doing it yourself; there are piano movers that will get your piano safely to its new location without a scratch… or a broken back. Take a look at “What to do with that Piano?” to help you with this process.
Special Circumstances
Certain moving circumstances require special attention. We have covered two of these circumstances here. First, if you are planning to move an office, rather than a home, you will have added responsibilities, such as a staff or irreplaceable files, to worry about. Our article, “Moving Your Office” gives some pointers for this special moving situation. Second, if you are relocating outside the country, you will also have added tasks and circumstances to consider. You will probably need plane tickets, for example, and may need to deal with language barriers or more expensive shipping costs. “International Relocation,” our last article in this section, will address some of these specific situations and point you in the right direction for help and further advice.
