Questions to Ask Movers

Posted on by

Like so many things in life, successfully dealing with a moving company requires asking a lot of questions. Yep, it’s time to expose your inner Geraldo.

As uncomfortable as peppering people with questions might sound, it’s a must. The more questions you ask, the more you’ll know about your movers, and the less likely it’ll be that you end up with a bill you didn’t expect.

**In this article, we’ll discuss the topics you’ll want to cover when talking to movers. If you want a list of questions you should ask, check out this linkWhat to Ask Your Moving Company.

There are three basic issues you’ll want to ask your movers about: (1) services, (2) pricing, and (3) credentials.

Moving Services

You need to determine what services movers offer, so that you know whether the movers can handle your move. Also, by asking about services, you can discover whether the company offers free or cheap services, like free packing or free moving boxes.

Movers Prices

There are two steps to asking about movers’ prices. First, you want to ask about what they charge for services. For example, do they charge hourly, and how much? Check out our article about how much movers charge for more details.

Second, you want to ask about the moving estimate you’ve been given. Can you trust this estimate to be the final price? How far beyond it might you have to pay? Can you get a flat rate or not-to-exceed estimate instead?

Credentials

The only way to weed out shady movers is to ask them about their credentials. If a moving company doesn’t provide the right answers in a straight-forward manner, ditch them. It’s not worth the risk. Learn more about how to find a reputable moving company.

Also, ask if they have handled the particulars of your move before, such as, “Have you moved a piano before?”
