Nobody ever said moving is easy. Everyone knows it’s a pain in the butt. It’s a sweaty, grunty gig, an endeavor of stubbed toes and cussing. However, if you aren’t careful, it can be even worse than that.

All too often, moving is worse than just not easy – it’s problematic. There are many things that can go wrong during a move that can’t be cured by a well-timed swear word or a Gatorade break. These problems can seriously disrupt your move and your life.

Scams – Moving scams come in many forms, but, basically, you hire some unsavory individuals who either do a poor job or simply rip you off while.

Bad contracts – Creating a good moving contract is essential to avoiding disputes with your moving company. Such disputes can cost thousands of dollars and stretch indefinitely into the future.

Not packing properly – Take time to secure things in place, disassemble furniture, and label. Not doing so will lead to broken items and wasted time.

Starting late – Procrastination and moving are incompatible. Make sure to starting planning your move a couple months ahead of time, start packing a prepping a month ahead of time, and transfer your services a couple weeks before.

Not measuring – Measure your large items to make sure they will fit wherever you plan on putting them, including through doorways, into backseats, or into a moving truck.

Not selling what’s not needed – You can save money moving if you sell some of your possessions. Not only will it add money in your pocket, it will lower the over-all cost of moving. Additionally, it will make moving easier for you, and help your organize your new home (less is more).
