Michigan Moving Information
Unofficially known as “The Yellowhammer State,” Alabama offers 53 miles of beautiful beaches along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Located in the southeastern region of the country, Alabama has a humid, subtropical climate with mild winters. Thunderstorms are prevalent across the state and most severe in the spring and fall. Hurricanes from the Gulf of Mexico are also a threat during their active season and affect the coastline, as well as further inland.
Each major city in Alabama has something unique to offer. Huntsville earned the name “Rocket City” and is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command. Birmingham is the largest city and, combined with the metropolitan area, makes up over a quarter of the state’s population. Birmingham contains the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It is one of only two medical schools in the state. Birmingham is the primary industrial center for the southern United States, providing mainly iron and steel. Mobile is located on the Gulf of Mexico at the head of Mobile Bay and supports the twelfth largest port in the country, the Port of Mobile. It is home to the other medical school in the state, the University of South Alabama. Mobile is also home to the first officially documented Carnival with a mystic society, also known as a krewe, and parades. The capital of the state is Montgomery and is located just southeast of the center of the state. Maxwell Air Force gives the city a large military presence.
Jobs in Alabama are a direct reflection of the industries of its major cities. Some of the fastest growing careers are in avionics and aerospace engineering due to the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. Captains and pilots of major water vessels are also growing careers due to the Port of Mobile.
History lovers will always have a new adventure in Alabama. The state is rich in historical landmarks and museums. The United States Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville is a museum that showcases old rockets and space artifacts. The museum offers interactive science exhibits for children. Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines are two Civil War forts that flank Mobile Bay and act as protection for the port during the war. Also in Mobile Bay is the USS Alabama, a World War II battleship that was retired and then turned into a museum in 1964. Sports in Alabama are centered around their college teams, specifically the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide and Auburn’s Tigers.
Moving to any unfamiliar area can be scary, but Alabama movers can help with such details on top of moving you in. They can also point new residents in the direction of some favorite attractions.
