Detroit sits on the Detroit River across from Windsor, Ontario, and the city still answers to the Motor City nickname it earned from the auto industry. Woodward Avenue runs northwest out of Downtown and splits the city's east and west sides, and the same corridor carries you out toward Ferndale, Royal Oak and Birmingham. I-75 and I-94 cross the city, the Lodge Freeway (M-10) drops into Downtown, and the Southfield Freeway (M-39) is the usual north to south route on the west side.

A move into Downtown or Midtown, near Ford Field, Comerica Park and the Wayne State University campus, tends to mean an apartment or loft building rather than a house with a driveway. That usually raises the same questions every dense move does: lift access, a loading area, and how close a truck can park.
